Porches

A porch (from Old French porche, from Latin porticus 'colonnade,' from porta 'passage') is external to the walls of the main building itself, but may also be enclosed with an access door of its own. A porch provides a weatherproof area between the outside world and the house, rather like an airlock. Porches can be built using brick similar to that on the house, so it matches, or can resemble a mini-conservatory and be constructed of PVCu panels and glass. The roof can be either timber-framed with tiles, have a flat roof finished with felt or have a roof that lets in light, in either glass or polycarbonate.
