Most new windows are now made of PVCu. PVCu is smart, durable and requires almost no maintenance at (apart from the occasional wipe down). The PVCu profile we use at Regent Windows is lead-free, has excellent thermal properties and does not fade. We also specialise in making windows using Aluminium profile. Aluminium (or 'Aly', as we call it) has come a long way; it is powder-coated and properly thermally-broken.
Popular types of windows are Casement, Tilt and Turn windows and Sliding Sash (often just referred to as 'sash'). Please have a browse through our website - they're displayed in their own sections. If you have any questions, please contact us here or call us on 01242 254 222.
The word 'window' comes from Old Norse word, 'vindauga', meaning wind eye. The use of the word in Englishwas first recorded in the 13th Century, when it came to replace the Old English word, 'eagþyrl', which meant eye hole. The word fenester, coming from the Latin 'fenestra', meaning window with glass, was used up until the mid 18th Century. The word 'fenestration' is still used today to describe the arrangement of windows in a facade. Before glass came along, window holes were covered with cloth, wood, animal hides, (or pretty much anything that came to hand once winter arrived!)
